Wednesday took us 61 miles away to Virginia City, which was the 2nd territorial capital of Montana.  It was  settled as a gold mining town and there are piles of rocks all along the river & surrounding area which are the tailings left from the gold dredging.   We were treated to a tour through town on a 1941 Fire Truck and learned about the history of the town along the route.  Alot of the buildings are still in their original condition dating back to 1864.

Of course, we enjoyed our afternoon ice cream treat.

Thursday, started with an outdoor breakfast at Barrett's Park.

 The park had a suspension bridge we had to walk over to get to breakfast.

We went to Camp Fortunate which was another Lewis & Clark site.

 Thursday was finally a beautiful sunny day, so we enjoyed touring around Dillon in convertible style.  We stopped at a quaint antique shop that had this unique bike.

The antique shop was surrounded by this rock wall.  

 We enjoyed prime rib at our final banquet.  Lots of food followed by rich chocolate mousse;  it was just too much for Brooklyn.  (Actually, too much for all of us!)

 All good things must come to an end... the final ride of the week - into the trailer & then it's good-bye for now.

Notice the sad faces as our trip to Dillon comes to an end.  We've had a great week & thoroughly enjoyed having Brooklyn & Megan with us.  They've been great travelers but now it's time to head for home.

We enjoyed dinner on Monday at Sparky's Garage Restaurant with some other car buddies.

We enjoyed another fun-filled day in Montana.  

We drove 21 miles to Bannack which was originally settled during the gold rush back in 1862 and was the first territorial capital of Montana.  Today it is a well-preserved ghost town that we enjoyed exploring.

The girls enjoyed this 'ancient' merry-go-round -- it really worked!

They had their first experience in panning for gold and even found some fragments of garnets.

We took an afternoon break to enjoy a snow cone in downtown Dillon.

Tonight we were entertained by a delightful group of fiddlers ranging in age from 5 to 14.  They performed an exceptional program which we all thoroughly enjoyed.

Wahoo!  We are enjoying Dillon, Montana for a week-long Vintage Chevrolet Club of America 4-Cylinder Car Tour with about 50 other Chevys 1911 - 1928.  We met on Sunday night and enjoyed a steak BBQ provided by the Chamber of Commerce and parked all our cars at the park for the community to come visit.  Brooklyn & Megan are with us so here's some pictures of the area & things we're doing.

Monday we drove about 71 miles out to the Big Hole Battlefield Site which preserves a Nez Perce War battlefield.  It's where the largest battle was fought in a 5 month conflict known at the Nez Perce War.  The girls were bundled up in the backseat of the 1928 Chevy with the cool temps & wind all around.  We even got rained on a couple of times during our travels today.

  

We're off to a good start and having lots of fun!  The girls are real troopers and putting up with all of us grannies & grumpas.

We left Bluff, Utah on Tuesday morning & 7 hours 300+ miles later, we arrived in Beaver, Utah pulling our RV and 4-wheeler trailer.  (Yes, we do the triple rig thing).  We came past Hite, what used to be a marina for Lake Powell, and it is now high & dry.  Notice the boat ramp in the center of the picture;  Colorado River runs under the ledge where Phil stands.

In Beaver, we enjoyed 4-wheeling up the mountain.  Ahhh, what a view! Mt. Belknap & Mt. Baldy.

Just a few patches of snow and dandelions out in full bloom.

Phil remembers 'the swamps' area up towards the end of North Fork of North Creek and has fond memories of family campouts there as a youth.
