Sept 30, 2013, was a sad day when we learned that John Clayton Petty passed away.  He was a great brother-in-law and friend to all with positive attitude toward life.  He loved his family & wanted every member to know they were an important part of their family.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 4, 2013 in the Draper 2nd Ward Chapel.  Speakers provided great tributes to John.  He will be greatly missed by his honey, Kathleen and family.

Part of  display showing his life included the little blue truck that Jill & friends gave him as a token of thanks for his help in coming to their rescue.  It was included in his treasures.

 Kaylene Stephens and Kathleen.  Since John was a proud Veteran of the US Navy, full military honors were extended at the services, which were heart-felt.

We were privileged to have been loved by John and to have felt his influence in our lives.  May his family know that we continue to love & support them.

On our last tour day, Thursday, Sept 12, we drove about 32 miles up to over 7,000 feet elevation to Anthony Lake, which was a beautiful, forestry area.

 

Elmer & Karla are the best to travel with; we really enjoy our times together.  Alli and Adri had fun with everything we did & saw.

  It's always a sad time when we say good-bye to a fun week and load the car to head home.

 Look at those sad faces.  We didn't want the fun week to end.

We left Baker City, Oregon on Friday and headed to Twin Falls, Idaho for a visit with Tom & Judy Hamilton.  We got to see Shoshone Falls and walk out on the bridge.  Cool!

We arrived home Saturday after a wonderful fun filled week of touring with great friends in our early 6-cylinder Chevys!

On Tuesday, Sept 10, we drove about 30 miles to the small farming community of Haines, Oregon where we toured their museum of over 10,000 items on display.

Oxen on display in Baker City.  The girls hopped on to check out how much fun they would be to ride on the trail.

Wednesday, Sept 11, was a long drive of about 80 miles through farmlands & forests around Baker City, Oregon.   We stopped at a nice park where the girls practiced their rock skipping skills.

Our friend Laura DeFord helped the girls learn how to skip rocks on the stream.

Here's what we look like going down the highway.  Every time we get in the car we sing, "On the Road Again"  but that's all the words we know to the song.

We ended up at the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center where we saw some great displays of the early settlers.

Art Davis has become a fan of these two.  He calls them 'boys' so they call him 'Grandma Art'.  He just gave the girls little animal puppets.

They served us a chuckwagon lunch of stew, biscuits, & peach cobbler.

Of course, we had ice cream again for our midday snack.

For dinner tonight, we went to the Geiser Grand Hotel & Restaurant, a real upscale establishment dating back to the 1860's.  Still  upholds that reputation.

Hard to believe this week is almost over.

We arrived at our early 6-cylinder car tour destination on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013.  We are the Baker's, in Baker City, which is in Baker County, Oregon for this entire week.  How's that for a lot of Baker?  Alli & Adri are the 2 lucky grandkids who got to come with us and it will be a great learning experience for us all.  We are touring around in our 1931 Chevy Cabriolet.

Monday, Sept 9, we got to ride the narrow gauge train from McKuen to Sumpter, OR.

 We rode in an open car all the way there; we got a few cinders on us.  We rode in the enclosed passenger car on the way back.

 The conductor punched smiley faces in the girls tickets.

We got to tour the dredge used in mining gold from the river.  Each of the 75 buckets on the belt weighed a ton.

 We are having fun with our new 'looks'.  Maybe you won't even recognize us.
